शौचात् स्वाङ्गजुगुप्सा परैरसंसर्गः ॥४०॥
śaucāt svāṅga-jugupsā parairasaṁsargaḥ ||40||
[SS] 2.40 By purification arises disgust for one’s own body and for contact with other bodies. [p142]
[EB] 2.40 By cleanliness, one [develops] distaste for one’s body and the cessation of contact with others. [p267]
(शौचात्, śaucāt) = purity; purification; cleanliness; hygiene
(स्वा, svā) = their own
(अङ्ग, aṅga) = body; limbs
(स्वाङ्ग, svāṅga) = one’s own body
(जुगुप्सा, jugupsā) = disinclined, distanced from, drawn away from
(परैः, paraiḥ) = with others; from others; from the outside
(असंसर्गः, asaṁsargaḥ) = cessation of contact, non-association
