तस्मिन् सति श्वासप्रश्वास्योर्गतिविच्छेदः प्राणायामः ॥४९॥
tasmin sati śvāsa-praśvāsyor-gati-vicchedaḥ prāṇāyāmaḥ ||49||
[SS] 2.49 That [firm posture] being acquired, the movements of inhalation and exhalation should be controlled. This is pranayama. [p158]
[EB] 2.49 When that [asana] is accomplished, pranayamah, breath control, [follows]. This consists of the regulation of the incoming and outgoing breaths. [p289]
(तस्मिन्, tasmin) = after this; after asana
(सति, sati) = being accomplished
(श्वास, śvāsa) = inhaling
(प्रश्वास्योः, praśvāsyoḥ) = exhaling
(गति, gati) = movement
(विच्छेदः, vicchedaḥ) = interruption; braking; ceasing; mastering
(प्राण, prāṇa) = life force; life energy
(याम, yāma) = bind; regulate
(आयाम, āyāma) = release; liberate
